PTE MAGIC

For many people, Reading is the hardest part of the whole PTE Academic Test. They even find it more intimidating than any of the other segments!
We do understand the struggle of keeping yourself focused on choosing the correct answers for a long period of time.
Thus, here are some tips for you to get better (if not being the best!) at reading.

Read the questions and choices first

The questions (and even choices) often contain certain keywords that can help you locate the topic or even the tone of the passage. By paying attention to these two factors first, you can shorten the time you spend on spotting the right answer.
Besides, not reading questions thoroughly can cause you to miss important orders such as: Choosing the answer that is NOT TRUE. So be careful!

Take notice of the paraphrases

Normally, the answers are not exactly like what you spot in the passage. They can be paraphrased or re-wrote in another order.
So take notice of the words that are in the same word list or families as the keywords that you found and see if they are actually the answer (in disguise).

Skimming and scanning

These are the two crucial skills that you need in order to perform well in the PTE Reading Test:
  • Skimming is reading quickly to get an overview of the material.
  • Scanning is reading quickly to find specific facts.
While skimming helps you determine general information from a long section in a blink of an eye, scanning helps you locate a particular fact. By mastering these skills, candidates will no longer be bothered that much by the Reading part.

Still, the test has a time limit of 32-40 minutes. As deciding how to spend your time on each section or question is up to you, you need to develop your reading speed to finish all the questions in time.
